Guide Summary

This is a PvE farming build in Guild Wars 2 for Warriors. The guide focuses on DPS and is based on critical chance using dual axes + warhorn. This is similar to another build using two-handed great swords to score high damage combo spikes.

Strengths, Weaknesses

Very high critical chance and damage. Very easy to tag mobs and gain loot. Quickly take down multiple trash mobs. Is vulnerable to stuns, daze, confusion and knockdowns. Limited utility and healing. Prepare to die a lot.

Attributes for your character

Attribute Effect Comments
Power Increases damage and critical damage Your primary attribute
Precision Increases critical chance Your secondary attribute.
Critical Chance Does this need explanation? This is a critical chance build! Raise it as high as you can!
Toughness Increases damage resistance Useful in PVP and general survability. Not really the objective of this build.
Vitality Increases your health points Optional. Knight gear will increase your survivability at the cost of the primary or secondary attributes.

Weapons to use

Technically you only need 2 axes (equipped in set 1) and a warhorn on your off hand (in set 2). If you leave the warhorn in the offhand and nothing in the primary hand, the game will default to whatever primary weapon you have in the other set when you do a weapon swap.

You may wish to bring a rifle or long bow for certain engagements that require some ranged ability. You can change your traits to suit a ranged battle before an encounter (if required). This is particularly useful in dungeons vs bosses and dragons.

For under water combat i'm a big fan of spears. You cleave 3 targets at once and it does more damage than the spear gun.

Sigils to upgrade your weapons

Sigil Use
Vulnerability on critical hit Helps with stacking of weakness on your target. Up to 25 stacks.
Bleed on critical hit Helps stacking damage-over-time on your target. Up to 25 stacks. You will automatically cause bleed with axes using your skills and traits. This will keep the stacks on veterans, elites and epic bosses.
Steal health on critical hit This is useful in dungeons where you may wish to have some form of healing. It'll top up your health points as you attack. You can put this on one of your axes or your ranged weapon, so that you have the option to retreat/still keep firing at your target.
Fireball on critical hit This is a must for PvE farming and World vs World. A giant ball of flame explodes at your feet when you hit with criticals. This will proc a lot using this build.

Traits

Strength

Add 20 points Strenth, take Berserker's Power and Axe Mastery as major traits.

Reckless Dodge is useful early in the levels.

Arms

Add 30 points Arms, take Deep Strike ( important to this build - see above! ), Rending Strikes and your choice of Furious or Last Chance (depends on what you are attacking. For bosses its best with Furious because you'll do greater damage over time using your burst skill. Last Chance is useful for PVP because you can burn down players and objectives fast with Quickness).

Precise Strikes also causes your enemies to bleed. The rate at which you'll be critting your targets means that almost all your enemies will have stacks of bleeding. Use a Sigil that adds more bleeding stacks per critical for greater effect. The DoT is handy for longer engagements and can make it easier to farm large groups of mobs (unless they are immune to bleed). With Attack of Opportunity you get more damage to bleeding.

Discipline

Add 20 points Discipline, take Heightened Focus and Sharpened Axes.

Fast Hands is useful for quick weapon swaps, or if you use any weapons that give you buffs for swapping to that weapon in combat.

Weapon Skills

Axe/Axe

Skill Description
Chop Your weapon's auto attack. Its a series of 3 attacks.
Cyclone Axe Open fights with this attack. Places a vulnerability (weakness) condition on all melee targets within range. Later you get a trait that makes this more reliable.
Throw Axe Your only ranged combat skill with this weapon set. Throws a blunt axe at a single target and cripples them. Use on fleeing opponents. Also useful in farming runs to draw attention. In World vs World use it against players on the run.
Dual Strike Dual axe attack is an AoE cone attack. It's not effective if you're only using it on one target. But if you have 3 to 5 targets stacked on top of each otherm you'll attack everything in front of you with one ability! 2x 5 mobs = 10 hits!
Whirling Axe Very effective AoE moveable-attack. If you want to add conditions on multiple targets quickly.... whirl around the battlefield and hit everything in your path. Note: it doesnt stop you from being attacked and you can be interrupted or knocked down. This attack is significantly weaker than using your auto attacks.

Axe/Warhorn

Skill Description
Chop Your weapon's auto attack. Its a series of 3 attacks.
Cyclone Axe Open fights with this attack. Places a vulnerability (weakness) condition on all melee targets within range. Later you get a trait that makes this more reliable.
Throw Axe Your only ranged combat skill with this weapon set. Throws a blunt axe at a single target and cripples them. Use on fleeing opponents. Also useful in farming runs to draw attention. In World vs World use it against players on the run.
Charge Your running skill. Buffs nearby allies, removes cripple. Combine with Sigil of Rage (Elite) to maximise swiftness duration.
Call to Arms Grants you more endurance buff and places weakness debuff on enemies. I dont recommend using this skill around lots of mobs because it attracts attention. Most fights wont last long enough for this buff to be useful. In dungeons you can use this to buff your allies if it doesn't draw attention of trash.

Utility skills

Bring all your signets but don't use them.
  • Healing Signet
  • Dolyak Signet
  • Signet of Fury
  • Signet of Might
  • Signet of Rage (Elite)

Guild Wars 2

Rotations, build summary

Your signets should remain as passives.

Each Signet that remains passive, grants you a critical chance boost. So if you use them in combat it lowers your critical chance, nullifying your critical chance/damage build. You can use Signet of Rage because the elite grants even more bonuses but you have to wait for the cooldown.

The more signets recycling, the lower your crit rate from Deep Strike, thus the trade-off of this build is sacrificing your utility skills for better ability to critical in an attack.

Your gear is explained above. Get as much gear that improves your Power, Precision and Crit Chance as possible. At level 80 you'll need to look at your Orange Armor sets for their set bonuses.

Keep your andrenalin maxed if possible in short engagements because Berserker's Power and Heightened Focus is most effective with 3 bars of andrenalin. For long fights this is not required because you'll be building up your andrenalin gauge fast if you time whirlwind axes correctly.

In long engagements with Champion bosses you should be using your burst skill Eviscerate. Use it with 3 andrenalin bars, and follow up with Whirling Axe. This will refill your bar quickly and you can get back to smacking the boss with Chop.

You should be cleaving targets with an axe. You can cleave up to three targets at the same time so keep this in mind when you're chopping up targets. Skills like Double Chop and Whirlwind Axe will affect everything in range of those attacks.

In combat... watch what your enemy is doing! I cant stress this enough. If it looks like the enemy is about to do a special attack. Get out of the way! You're a glass cannon. If you dont think you can survive the fight RUN AWAY! Heal up, and get back in the fight.

Your weaknesses in this build are any immobilisation skills used on you such as Cripple, Stun, Daze, Confusion, Fear, Knockdown etc. Low Survivability and Ground target Aoe obstacles like Lava Font are going to be the death of you. Concentrated Ranged attacks focused on you as well as high burst damage will mean a very quick death.

You also dont have any range damage. So if the warhorn is not useful in a fight, swap it out for a Long bow or Rifle, but keep in mind that most of your skills are set up in favor of your axes. If it's a boss with a stupidly strong ground stomp, switch out your weapons to a rifle and quickly set your traits to favour the Rifle skills (under Arms).

In PVP swap out your Signet of Fury and throw in Bull's Charge. Use it against fleeing enemies at half health, then burn them with your axes. You can also use BC for evading enemies and fleeing for your life.
